Oktoberfest during Covid?

 I haven't updated in so long that Blogger looks different now. Since Oktoberfest would start this weekend, I'm going to look at all the circulars and see if I could find things I would want to make. Even though no people will come. I can eat all the food myself.

Ozzie's: I've been shopping here a lot because American Express has been giving me $5 if I spend $10 at certain small businesses and this one counts. Mostly I buy beer. That ends this weekend and I have 1 trip left. Anyway.. Pork shoulder is $0.99/lb, which is a good start.

Key Food: Two pounds of onions for $1. One pound of baby bella mushrooms for $3. Pepsi proucts are 3/$4. Sour cream is $2. 

C-Town: Pork shoulder is $0.99/lb here too. Scalfani crushed tomatoes are $1.50, so I should get some. I only ever see Luigi Vitelli on sale and I did a test once and learned I like Scalfani a lot more. Colavita pasta is $1. I have so much pasta though. Maybe I should eat pasta more often since it's the only thing that makes me happy. Sour cream is also $2 here and cream cheese is $1.50. I've never seen Fage sour cream before, but it's also $2.

Bravo: Onions are $1 for 2 lbs here.

Western Beef: Pork shoulders are $0.79/lb but you have to buy 2. They also have chicken leg quarters for $0.29/lb but you have to buy 40 lbs. Life is far too lonely these days to buy 40 lbs of chicken. A six pack of English muffins is $1. That seems good, but I never buy English muffins so I don't know.

Food Bazaar: Here, English muffins are $2.50 for 6, so now I know.

What's on sale this week

I'm going to look at all the grocery circulars and write what I see. I have all the tabs open. I am not looking for anything in particular, but I might like to have a roof party, a Memorial Day party, or a burrito party. I don't have any friends or money though, so I will just imagine what I would do with any deals I find.

Green Corner: They didn't update their circular again. They're bad at that. I went there this week and bought 2 beets, 1 bag of onions, and 1 carrot. It cost $2.67.

Food Bazaar: Shrimp are $6/lb. 2 liters of Pepsi are $1, but I am trying to drink less pop. That doesn't make me less fat though so maybe I'll go back to the pop life. Kielbasa is $2.50. I should go on the kielbasa life too. I haven't bought any meat in 2 weeks, but that also has not made me any less fat. Moules are $3 for 2 lbs. Not bad. I should get those. A cucumber is $0.40. I still have most of a seedless cuke I got for $0.50 this week though. (I ate it on a sandwich with luxury butter and Ikea cheese and it was good).

Bravo: 38 oz of Heinz ketchup is $2. Stock up! (I have ketchup in my cabinet waiting for action, so I won't. But you should.) A pound of different Krasdale cheese is $3.49. That could be good for a burrito. Sour cream is $1.50 which could also be good for a burrito. The avocado price is not good, so it shall not be mentioned. White mushrooms are $1.50 for 8 oz. That's good.

Ozzies (fka Associated): Peaches are $0.99/lb. I can make peach salad! Cans of Starkist tuna are $0.89. Starkist is my favorite tuna brand because it's from Pittsburgh. I used up all my tuna this week making pan bagnat.

 

Chicken of the Sea solid white tuna is only $1 so maybe I'll get that too even though I never like it much. Flour tortillas are $2.50. That could be good for a burrito.

Key Food: This probably a lot of the same sales as Ozzie's because they are both distributed by Key Food. Peaches are $0.99. A watermelon is cheaper here: $4. And Key Food has 9 pages of sales so maybe more stuff is on sale. 18 beers are $9 after the digital rebate. A bag of lemons is $2. I could make limoncello. That's nice for summer.

C-Town: A can of pineapple juice is $2.29. That's the best price I've seen in a while. A can of olives is $1.49. I need those. A lot. I can make tapenade.  Cool Whip is $1.50. I can finally make Koolaid Pie! Cream cheese is $1.50. I should stock up on that for cheese balls and pimento cheese.

I'm done with Gala Foods.

I bought 7 items. Four of them rang up wrong. I caught 2 of them. That sucks.

The pork butts and sour cream rang up correctly ($0.99/lb, $1.69).

Red potatoes rang up as $3.69 (supposed to be $2.99) and red onions as $1.99 for a 2 lb bag (supposed to be $0.99). I caught those.

Cabbage rang up as $0.59/lb (supposed to be $0.39) and mushrooms as $1.99 (supposed to be $1.79). I noticed that when I got home.

This week's grocery deals

I'm hungry, so maybe I'll figure out what to eat.

Green corner:  Apples and celery are $0.79, per pound and each, respectively. Cilantro is 50 cents.

Bravo doesn't have any good deals.

C-Town doesn't have any good deals. This is looking bad for me. I'm going to starve.

Associated: sour cream is on sale for $1.69

Key Food: beefsteak tomatoes are $0.95/lb. That's an odd price. A bunch of things are $0.95 but I only care about the tomatoes.

Since nothing is good, I looked at Food Bazaar. Nothing I want there either.

I'm going to starve this week unless people come over with groceries for me and then I will cook them into a dinner.

Hmmm. What to cook for the Super Bowl

It's the only time of year I can ever remember seeing wings on sale. Food Bazaar has a 5 lb bag of frozen ones for $10. Which is still a rip off compared to the usual $0.50/lb I like to pay for quartered legs. But it's a special occasion. I think someone else might bring wings to my party and save me the trouble of spending $10. If I make the wings, I'd make a variation of Melissa Clark's green goddess roast chicken.

Key Food's sales are lackluster, except a pound of Galbani mozzarella for $3.

C-Town has Frank's Red Hot on sale, which I will need for my infamous Buffalo Chicken Jello Salad.  And Wishbone salad dressing for $0.79. Bleu cheese dressing is another ingredient in my masterpiece. C-Town has sour cream on sale for $1. I'll need that since I am going to make nachos. I can't inflict only savory gelatin on my guests.
