What might be on sale at Key Food this week? Corona uncertainty

Key Food is the only store that still publishes a circular. Once I'm in the store, some of the sales show up on price tags. Usually produce is good. But I still read the circular and think about all the things I can buy. I'm going to go there shortly after I write this.

Red onions are $1.67 for a bag of 2 lbs. (So are yellow onions, but I have those.) An avocado is $1. That's the cinco de mayo sale. Tuna is $0.89/can. Canned salmon is $3 and I might get that. I made a good salmon dip not long ago. Cranberry juice is $2. Pepsi 2 liters are 4/$5 (must buy 4). I never do that because it's heavy, but I might make an exception today. A carton of orange juice is $2. Probably the diluted kind. Frozen raviolis are 50% off. (I am pretty good at speaking Italian, but I am still going to pluralize ravioli like that when I speak English.) A 3 liter can of Colavita pure olive oil is $16 and more than anything else, I hope this is actually a sale! Scalfani canned tomatoes are 4/$5. Various Old El Paso things are on sale for Cinco de Mayo.

That's a lot of food! I guess if some isn't on sale, I won't be too disappointed. If nothing is, or if the oil isn't, I will be very disappointed. I haven't been outside since Saturday.

By the way, I turned my bacon into carbonara last night and it was good.

Update: Nothing was on sale except the avocados. The onions said they were on sale but weren't on the shelf. I walked out with nothing. I would have gone to Ozzie's afterward but I didn't have my gloves with me.

Shopping

I went to Key Food. Eggplant, zucchini, and plum tomatoes were on sale for $0.99/lb so I got them. Tonic was $0.67. That was in the circular, but labeled on the shelf. So I wonder if I should trust circular prices. They label the produce sales, but nothing else. I don't know why. Iceberg lettuce is also $0.99 so I might go back later this week.

I went to Ozzie's too and got white pepper and cranberry juice. They were both $2.99. I don't know what to do with white pepper.

Weekly Sales

I'm only going to look at 3 stores. I glanced over Food Bazaar's yesterday and nothing caught my eye. Green Corner doesn't have anything in winter anyway, and I'm not going all the way to Western Beef.

Bravo: Iceberg lettuce is $1. That's it. I'm unlikely to go to Bravo just for $1 of lettuce.

C-Town: Luigi Vitelli canned tomatoes are $1. I am running low on those. It's not my favorite brand, but I can survive it. Ocean spray cranberry juice is $2.50. Luigi Vitelli pasta is $0.88, and it's a perfectly good brand of pasta. I think I already own every major shape though.

Key Food: Iceberg lettuce is $1 here too. Baby bella mushrooms are $3/lb. Last week, I bought white button mushrooms for $2.50 for a pound, which I haven't eaten yet. Maybe I will eat those today so I can buy more mushrooms.

Well, that's all. I guess I'll eat from my cupboards this week. Which I need to do anyway.

C-Town Update

I went there tonight to get the cranberry juice so I could make Cape Codders. They did have the cranberry juice. They did not have salad dressing on sale. I discovered that their everyday low price for Vintage tonic water is $0.79, so I got that too and I will consider returning more. I got a head of romaine, which at $0.99/lb was $1.21. So I guess that is how much romaine weighs. I ate it for dinner and I will get more before the week ends. I also bought 2 plum tomatoes.

The sales this week

I really ought to go buy olives and maybe tahini at Parrot Coffee. But this is limited to my local stores. I also bought 2 eggplants and 1 seedless cucumber for $1.50 at King Mart yesterday, and I made baba ghanoush so I should get something to eat that with.

Green Corner: Limes are still a dime. I bought 5 last night. Peaches and jalapeños are both $0.99/lb so maybe I should make peach-o de gallo. I got 2 serrano peppers last night though and made salsa verde. I don't know how many salsas I should have. A bag of yellow onions is $1.25

Ozzie's: Hellman's mayo is $3. A watermelon is $3. The last time I bought one it took too long for me to eat, but I might get another anyway. A dozen large eggs is $0.89. I should make another dozen hard boiled ones. I steam them in a metal colander now.  Oooh extra large eggs are $1. Heavy cream is $1.50. I could make ice box cakes if I find fresh fruit, which shouldn't be hard. Vintage tonic water is $0.60 for a liter bottle. A can of tomato juice is $1.69. I should have brunch. Lots of good stuff at Ozzie's.

C-Town: Salad dressing is $0.79. I need ranch for all my pizza rolls. Cranberry juice is $2.5, but I fell for this a couple weeks ago and they didn't actually have it. Romaine is $0.99/lb. I think that is good, but I don't know how much a head of romaine weighs. If it's 1 lb, that is good.

Bravo: "slicing tomatoes" are $0.99/lb which I would like, but Bravo never has good tomatoes. Sweetened condensed milk is $1.5, so I can finally make kool-aid pie.

Key Food: Iceberg lettuce is $1. They advertise a 12-pack of Miller or Coors after rebate but this store doesn't know how to do rebates. The egg sale from Ozzie's is also here. So is the tonic water. Heinz bbq sauce. I am still looking for vinegar carolina style.

What's on Sale This Week

Last week I wrote a post about what was on sale and then I referred to it many times through the week and bought food I never even ate yet. So I will do it again. Let's see what we have.

Bravo: Pineapple juice is $1.99. That's good because I tried to buy it at C-Town yesterday but didn't see the sale.

Green Corner: Limes are 7/$1.

Ozzie's: Beefsteak tomatoes are $0.99/lb. (Why are they called that?) Powerade is $1. I need that.

Food Bazaar: nothing

C-Town: Colavita pure olive oil (3 liter can) for $15.99. I have a can from last time it was on sale, but you should buy this! Krasdale cranberry juice is $1.74. I could drink Cape Cods. I am fancy so I call it that. Lowlifes call it "vodka cran." Krasdale lemonade is $1.50. Maybe I only am looking at mixers because I drank too much last night without mixers.

Key Food: Beefsteak tomatoes again. Because Ozzie's is fake Key Food.

There is a 12 pack of beer for $5 after rebate. That is why I started a new paragraph to go on a rant. They had a rebate last week and I spent forever trying to access it. But the rebate requires you to scan a QR code or go to a website, which Anheuser-Busch changes for every rebate period. But Key Food had signs up for New Years, Valentine's Day, and all sorts of random dates. But now for last week! So I could not get it! I did end up buying Bud Light at Bravo, but now I am sick of drinking it.

I guess there isn't much on sale this week.

Thanksgiving shopping

Other than a free turkey if you spend $150 (how you do that without a car, I don't know), Associated doesn't seem to even realize it's Thanksgiving in this week's circular.

Western Beef hasn't updated their circular page of the website. C-Town's is broken.

I bought a turkey yesterday at Key Food. Key Food takes Thanksgiving seriously. I end up getting most of my stuff there every year. This year I didn't buy the smallest turkey. First time I did that I think. I got one that's 15.65 lbs. I'm going to supplement it with some more turkey legs. I think about thirty people are coming to Midnight Thanksgiving.

In non-Thanksgiving news, Associated has my olive oil for $18 if you spend $15. Too late, I got it at Key Food last week. Bravo has cans of pineapple juice for $1.69. I'm going to stock up on that.

Some Good Deals at Key Food

Orange juice was $1.69 for a carton, so I'm going to drink some screwdrivers when the sun sets. Colavita crushed tomatoes are still $1.50. C-Town charges a premium for them. The Key Food tomato sauces were 3/$1 and I want to make chili soon so those will be good. Eggs were $1.79, which is an ok price. It beats C-Town. Giardinera was $2. Rice is $1.49 for a pound. The 2 pound bags are $2.99, so I think I'll just save myself the penny and let them store the extra pound for more. That's penny-wise AND pound-wise. Milk is $2.69 for a half gallon. I have no idea if that's a good price. I can never run for president because despite buying milk and having a grocery blog, I don't know the price of milks.

They had buttermilk for either $2 or $2.50. Trader Joe's has it for $1.69, same brand. These buttermilks all expired yesterday or in 3 days. With prices like that, no wonder they have no turnover. With no turnover, no wonder they have prices like that. Not my problem--I'll wait til I'm at Trader Joe's.
